National Champion
TIMELESS. Since 1890, the Family has been making tablea, the popular Philippine chocolate in tablet form. But it never occurred to them to use their craft for commerce despite having their own cacao farm and the expertise to make chocolate. The Family's focus was on their rice business, and their exotic Trinitario cacao turned tablea or tsokolate remained exclusive to family members and friends. It all changed when the great granddaughter of the ancestral cacao farm owner saw an opportunity to export the Family's traditional stone-ground Trinitario cacao.
ORGANIC. Alea Chocolates is a sustainable brand. We practice sustainable means of agriculture to protect the environment and ensure that our cacao products bring a genuine sense of place to anyone who enjoys them. We keep our products organic, pure and all-natural to be perfectly nutritive, as well. Naturally, cacao is packed with vitamins and antioxidants that make it a perfect multivitamin, and we are dedicated to keep it that way. Through organic production, not only can we produce high-quality, distinct products with intact Albay terroir, but we can also protect wildlife, biodiversity, and our native ecosystems entirely and enhance soil quality.
DIRECT-TRADE. We adhere to sustainable agriculture, protect our farmers' livelihood and raise their standard of living. Our organic Trinitario beans are freshly harvested from the Family's ancestral cacao farm and other similar neighboring farms. Albay, Philippines’ pristine environment naturally enables local farmers to grow organic, high-quality Trinitario cacao beans that we handpick and handcraft to be Alea Chocolates.
SINGLE-ORIGIN. Carefully grown and handcrafted in Albay, Philippines, Alea Chocolates are roasted, traditional stone-ground, pure (100%) Trinitario cacao. Albay is a province in the Philippines, quite mountainous with rich and fertile lands to grow crops. Its volcanic soil, climatic, topographic and other environmental conditions compose the ideal terroir for growing cacao. The perfect terroir combined with our traditional stone-ground processing give our cacao products their distinct flavors and aromatics ~ naturally floral, distinctly Albay terroir. Locals, the Albayanos and generally the Bikolanos, are widely known for their generosity and altruistic nature. And these fine cultural traits shape how local farmers grow our cacao and how our seasoned local chocolatiers craft Alea Chocolates.
